Mental Fitness

Mental & psychological fitness is a dynamic, measurable set of cognitive, emotional and behavioural strengths that determine how individuals respond to challenge, relate to others and sustain high performance.

Via the Cognosis reporting system we take a data driven approach to raising performance at individual and organisational levels

What is Mental Fitness?

Mental Fitness is the capacity and ability to improve performance by managing our states of psychological and emotional wellbeing.  Mental Fitness begins with self-awareness and is generated by identifying and managing internal capacities such as focus, attention, presence, perspective, confidence; the ability to appreciate strengths, positivity, determination and the ability to achieve balance.  Mental Fitness enables an individual to engage productively with their environment (work and home), to manage relationships positively, communicate well, to feel fulfilled, motivated and optimistic.

A combination of all of these factors results in foundations of resourcefulness across the different skills and competencies important in personal and professional life.

Why is Mental Fitness important?

Developing a greater awareness of our Mental Fitness results in the development of a sense of wellbeing and happiness, valuable to each individual and invaluable to an organisation looking to sustain and improve business performance.

What are the benefits for individuals?

Mental Fitness helps individuals to perform at their best at home and at work and lead happier lives and prevent poor mental health. It raises awareness of where they are now and what they need to do to maintain or develop their Mental Fitness.

And for organisations?

Being aware of the level of Mental Fitness in your organisation is vital to sustaining and improving business performance.  Focusing on developing/maintaining Mental Fitness earlier than treating/dealing with Mental Health issues keeps employees productive, contributing and happy.

It enables and empowers all employees to take ownership and responsibility for their own performance. In addition it enables an organisation to refine and develop their People strategy and has been proven to increase employee engagement, improve work performance and individuals feeling more able to achieve their goals.

How we measure Mental Fitness

We measure Mental Fitness using the Cognomie Mental Fitness Survey. Individuals complete a diagnostic survey and the results are presented to individuals, teams and/or organisations to help them understand the level of Mental Fitness and wellbeing and the contributors to the current status.
The survey draws on three key areas of Mental Fitness and wellbeing which are core to self-efficacy.
These areas are informed by theories of high performance and positive psychology and, with a series of focused conversations/ sessions with a practitioner, can enable an individual employee to manage stress and prevent burn-out.

What type of data is collected?

Lighthouse collates unique individually anonymised data relating to the Mental Fitness and wellbeing of an organisation in order to measure the impact, capture changes in behaviour, competencies, thinking and fulfilment.  Lighthouse’s accredited Mental Fitness coaches then use the data to support coaching conversations to enable shifts and development in Mental Fitness and wellbeing of individuals for whom coaching is recommended.

How can a Mental Fitness Coach help?

A Mental Fitness Coach will facilitate an individual’s understanding of the Mental Fitness Quotient (a measure of your overall Mental Fitness), what is contributing to this (positively and negatively) and will help them to develop skills and approaches to make improvements and develop strategies to sustain their strengths.
