Psychometrics and personality type indicators

Dr Meredith Belbin originally identified the Team Roles as part of a unique study of teams that took place at Henley Business School which included a business simulation game. In 1969, Dr Belbin was invited to use this business game as a starting point for a study of team behaviour. Since then it has become one of the most widely administered learning resources and we have used it to great effect with teams in both sport and business for many years.

Drs. Joyce and Robert Hogan were the first to prove that personality predicts workplace performance by helping businesses dramatically reduce turnover and increase productivity by hiring the right people, developing key talent and evaluating leadership potential. Thirty years later their assessment are used at some of the most powerful companies ion the world. Lighthouse Associates have facilitated Hogan Assessments as part of assessment and development centres for a range of clients.

Fundamental Interpersonal Relationship Orientation (Firo) has been a solid and reliable resource for us for many years and has been used extensively to support intact team development, personal development and coaching in particular with many of our clients in the energy and pharmaceutical sector. Firo provides insight into wanted and expressed needs across three dimensions: Inclusion, Control & Affection. Don't forget to ask your facilitator about it's relationship with the cold war!

Ask any professional in our business to name a psychometric and our money is on them naming MBTI. Myers Briggs Type Indicator is one of the most widely deployed and trusted resources in the world and gives insight into four classic dichotomies:
1. Where we focus our attention - Extraversion or Introversion
2. How we take in information - Sensing or Intuition
3. How we make decisions - Thinking or Feeling
4. How we deal with the outer world - Judging or Feeling

If you are looking to contextualise and understand conflict then the Thomas Kilmann Indicator (TKI) this is an outstanding resource. Based on the work of Kenneth W. Thomas and Ralph H. Kilmann this practical and applicable resource explores five conflict modes that we choose to deploy in conflict situations: Competing, Avoiding, Accommodating, Compromising & Collaborating. We deliver this in a fully interactive and dynamic way so make sure you have plenty of floor space available!

The Strength Deployment Inventory (SDI) is an outstanding resource for building awareness of behaviour in two settings: when things are going well for us and secondly when we face conflict and opposition. It is particularly powerful for gaining insight into likely responses to conflict situations and arrow length and direction always stimulate much reflection and discussion. A great resource for individual and team development based upon three dimensions of personality: Altruistic Nurturing, Assertive Directing & Analytic Autonomising

We first discovered TMSDI in 2003 and have used this resource to great effect with intact teams. It combines the classic Jungian dichotomies (Extraversion/Introversion etc) with work preferences. Several clients have adopted TMSDI as their default learning resources for good reason.

Several of our team are accreted in the use of Insights Discovery which is a firm favourite of a great many organisations. One of our energy clients has recently adopted this as their default resource. Insights Discovery is particularly memorable meaning that post delivery you'll see immediate effects and hear the language of the wheel being used whether it's Fiery Red, Cool Blue, Earth Green or Sunshine Yellow!

It has taken us several years to find a reliable resource to assess and develop Emotional Intelligence. The EQ-i 2.0 is the only resource that we and one of our larger international clients trust to do this and it does this well. EQ-i 2.0 measures 5 categories: Stress management, Self-perception, Self-expression, Interpersonal & Decision making and 5 additional sub scales offering detailed analysis of levels of emotional quotient.
Learning solutions and resources

Ask any effective leader to tell you what their most valued attribute is and we are confident they'll place flexibility high up their list. Situational Leadership II is internationally recognised as one of, if not the definitive model for effective leadership. It's no surprise that this has been a firm favourite of both Lighthouse and many of our clients for over 15 years. As continual learners, we recently 'upgraded' our learning to the new SLX version and would be very pleased to explore how this could revolutionise team effectiveness in your organisation. With a completely new and easy to use on line interface this is an outstanding resource.

We have partnered with Thelma and the fabulous team at MTS for a number of years. Management Tests and Surveys work with us and our clients to develop bespoke 180 and 360 degree surveys for individuals, teams and organisations. These often form the basis for our work and allow us to diagnose, design, deliver and measure solutions. Ask us about our work with UBS where we used this to great effect...

We feel enormously privileged to have been introduced to Pat Heneghan and the Executive Arts team by Mark Denton in 2015. The maps are exceptionally powerful in periods of change and work from the inside out, the reverse of most consulting processes. They connect our issues to core human experience. We’ve used them in cultures around the world, bringing people together, creating transformation and growth. Discovery, connection, insight and expression are fundamental to the way we work, and this work enables all four. See our dedicated page for more information...

We'd looked for some time for the right resource for assessing team performance. So when we met Gordon and began exploring the The Performance Climate Survey® (PCS) we knew we'd found a great tool.
